As a film school graduate, I dreamed of supporting myself solely with creative work, but struggled to find a balance between working to make ends meet and taking good care of myself. In 2015, I jumped at an opportunity to leave New York City for Paris and Berlin. The local organic markets were a great source of inspiration—I discovered ingredients I had never tried before, like golden berries and dried mulberries (I picked mulberries off trees and ate them in New York City as a kid, but had never seen them dried.)
Living in Berlin and working remotely in coffee shops, I wanted a luxurious treat that would not sabotage my healthy lifestyle. The nut mixes in stores were low quality and filled with sugar, so I started putting ingredients together at home and experimenting with different flavor combinations. Around that time, I tried some pistachios that were grown at the base of the volcano Mount Etna in Sicily—and I was blown away. The Bronte pistachios set the bar for the quality of my mix.
The search for the most delicious superfoods on the planet sustained me—both creatively and nutritionally. As I was collecting these unique ingredients, there came a day when I looked around my kitchen, surrounded by healthful deliciousness, and felt pure joy. I was eating what I made every day, and feeling great. After testing many formulations, I finalized the recipe, and began sharing it with friends. Seeing the joy on their faces inspired me to share what I had made more broadly, and the idea for Frühling was born.
Frühling means “springtime” in German, and it is the first trail mix to use ingredients regarded at a Michelin level. It is a snack that aligns with many different nutritional approaches: it’s anti-inflammatory, almost entirely raw (the only roasted ingredient is the cacao, because it tastes better that way) and all of our farms are either certified organic or working toward that certification. There are no added sugars, additives or preservatives. It’s just the best quality ingredients—nothing more.
These ingredients are a revelation to me, and I’m excited to be able to share them with you. I hope you love them as much as I do!
To good health and a life well lived,
Mabel Nash Greenberg,
